Competition entries are invited for the following classes. Entry is open to anyone except where a restriction is contained within the class schedule. Competitors are advised to read the rules and schedule carefully, ensuring that their entry complies with the requirements of their chosen class. Cash prizes will be given to the top three in each class - 1st £50, 2nd £30, 3rd £20 - together with a certificate. An overall prize (Kenwood kMix Stand Mixer - rrp £349) for 'The Best in Show' will be announced at the prize-giving on Sunday 16 November

KENWOOD

It could be you who joins the 'Best in Show Roll of Honour' alongside Jan Thorpe (Cake 1999 & 2002), Toshie Harashima (Cake 2000), Nik Holmes (Cake 2001 ), Carole Evans (2003), Risa Kuriyama (2004), Elizabeth Fundell (2005), Sandra Maria Clennell (2006)and Susan Tarran (2007).

DUMMIES may be used unless stated.

Competitors must complete an entry form for each class. An initial registration fee of £10.00 per person allows entry to one class; subsequent entries by the same individual will be charged at £5 each. Included in this fee will be one ticket for entry to the show on both days; this will be available on delivery of your exhibit(s) to the show. The last date for entries will be Friday 31 October 2008. All entry forms should be sent to ICHF Ltd. Photocopied entries are acceptable. The entry form for the Competitions can also be downloaded from the show web page. www.ichf.co.uk Child entries are £10.00 also, and include a ticket which can be used by the parent or guardian.

SENIOR CLASSES:

A. INTERNATIONAL CLASS : Overseas residents only

        sponsored by STEPHEN BENISON - SUGAR ARTISTRY
Create a display or cake that includes design elements representative of your own country or continent. To fit within a base area of 46cm (18"). Cakes may be covered in any suitable edible material and sugar sprays may include wires, tape, ribbon and stamen. Entries in this class restricted to visitors to the show from a registered overseas address.

B. COLLECTIVE FLORAL EXHIBIT : Sugar floral sprays

        sponsored by ORCHARD PRODUCTS
Present a minimum of two co-ordinating sugar floral sprays suitable for a tiered wedding cake. Exhibit to be displayed on draped fabric covering no more than 60cm (24") square. Wires, tape, ribbons, etc, are permitted but should not predominate.

C. AIRBRUSH CLASS

        sponsored by SHESTO LTD
Create a celebration cake using airbrushing as the main decorative skill. To fit within a base area of 46cm (18") the cake should show innovation in design and technique, any suitable edible medium may be used as the base coat.

D. DECORATED CELEBRATION CAKE : All edible

        sponsored by RENSHAW
A single tier cake covered with sugarpaste or royal icing, all decorative work to be in an edible medium. Exhibit to fit within a base area of 38cm (15").

E. DECORATED CELEBRATION CAKE WITH WIRED SUGAR FLOWERS

        sponsored by JEM CUTTERS
A single tier cake covered with sugarpaste or royal icing featuring sugar flowers wired into a spray (wires, tape, ribbon, net, stamens allowed) and an inscription with a minimum of twelve letters/figures indicating the occasion. Exhibit to fit within a base area of 38cm (15").

F. NOVELTY CAKE - Novel design

        sponsored by PATCHWORK CUTTERS
A regular shaped cake decorated in a novel fashion with any suitable medium. No dummies or internal supports to be used. The cake and decorations must be edible (and may be cut to ensure it complies with criteria). Exhibit to fit within a 60cm (24") base area.

G. SCULPTED NOVELTY CAKE

        sponsored by RENSHAW
A sculpted cake covered in any suitable edible medium. The cake and decorations must be edible and no internal supports used. The cake may be cut to ensure it complies with the criteria. No size restriction.

H. FIGURINE

        sponsored by MARCELA SANCHEZ
A creative centrepiece to feature a modelled figurine (or figurines). Can be created in any edible medium within a maximum base size of 38cm (15"), internal supports allowed.

J. A WEDDING CAKE OF TWO OR MORE TIERS

        sponsored by RENSHAW
To fit within a 60cm (24") base area, no height restriction. Style and covering of competitor's choice - royal icing, sugarpaste, chocolate or other coating. Wired sugar flowers and foliage, ribbons and artificial stamens are permitted. All display drapes must be contained within the permitted area.

K. FLORAL SUGARCRAFT

        sponsored by EDABLE ART
A floral arrangement displaying at least four varieties of flower (minimum three of each variety) and including foliage. Wires, stamen, tape and ribbon permitted. Non-edible containers permitted. To fit within a base area of 38cm (15").

L. MINIATURE SUGAR FLOWER DISPLAY

        sponsored by KIT BOX
A miniature exhibit of sugar flowers and foliage of competitor's choice to fit within a total display area of 12.5cm (5") cube.

M. A DECORATIVE EXHIBIT

        sponsored by CAKE CRAFT & DECORATION MAGAZINE
A decorative exhibit of your choice. Internal supports permitted, but no external supports, wire or tape allowed. Mediums may include chocolate, marzipan, pastillage, sugar or salt dough. To fit within a base area of 46cm (18"), no height restriction.

The following three classes will be judged in accordance with the British Sugarcraft Guild guidelines. Copies of these are available from the BSG National Office (telephone 020 8859 6943). These classes are open to all competitors.

N. NOVICE CLASS

        sponsored by THE BRITISH SUGARCRAFT GUILD
A birthday cake for a child coated in any suitable edible medium. All decorative work must be edible. Exhibit must fit into a 30cm (12") square.

O. OPEN FLORAL

        sponsored by THE BRITISH SUGARCRAFT GUILD
An exhibit of sugar flowers suitable for a pew end decoration at a church wedding. The exhibit may also include foliage, buds and berries. Ribbons, wires, stamens, thread and tape are allowed. Artificial materials may be used for fixing. Exhibit must fit into a 30cm (12") square and should be displayed upright.

P. OPEN CAKE

        sponsored by THE BRITISH SUGARCRAFT GUILD
A cake coated in any edible medium, starting with white sugarpaste/royal icing and using only red, yellow and black food colourings to produce shades and tints of various colours. Have fun playing with colours and produce an exhibit to fit in a 30cm (12") square. All decorative work to be edible.


JUNIOR CLASS:

Young people are invited to enter the following restricted classes. Individuals from Schools, Colleges and Cygnets Groups of BSG are also invited to enter.

Q. CHRISTMAS CAKE- restricted to young people under 14 years of age

Design and decorate a Christmas cake for your family using a 20cm (8") round cake. Style and coating of competitor's choice. The cake and decorations must all be edible.

R. BIRTHDAY CAKE - restricted to young people of 18 years of age or under

        sponsored by SELKIN LTD
Design and decorate a birthday cake for a friend using a 20cm (8") round or square cake. Style and coating of competitor's choice. The cake and decorations must all be edible.

Rules & Regulations 2008


Entries
Competitors must complete an entry form for EACH ENTRY and send it to ICHF at the address shown and by the closing date.

Registration fee
The first entry must be accompanied by the correct registration fee of £10; subsequent entries by the same individual are £5 each.

Closing date
The closing date for all entries is Friday 31 October. Late entries only accepted at the Show Manager's discretion.

Award guidelines
Each entry should be the unaided work of the competitor whose name appears on the entry form. The judges will be looking for the following: creativity/development of new ideas; workmanship/craft skills shown; composition/colour and proportion; presentation and visual appeal. Exhibits that do not comply with the given schedule will be disqualified.

Delivery of Exhibits
All exhibits should be presented at the time and day specified. Each competitor will register on arrival and be allocated space to position their exhibit. The organisers reserve the right to move the exhibits as necessary. A repair area will be available for competitors' use for mending any damages incurred in transit. Bring your own repair kit. Travelling boxes may be stored on site, but no responsibility can be assumed for their safety; please mark both lid and base clearly with your name.

The competition area will be open for the delivery of entries to Hall 8, door 8.3, from 0730 - 0845 on Saturday 15 November.
Late entries accepted at the Chairman of Judges' discretion. Once you have placed your competition piece please leave the hall and re-enter through the main entrance when the show opens. The show opening times are 0930 - 1730 Saturday, 0930 - 1700 Sunday.

Competitors' reference labels
Two labels will be issued to competitors on their arrival at the show. Please attach one label to your exhibit so that it is visible to the judges and the other to the base of your exhibit for security purposes. You must then place your exhibit on the Competition Table where indicated by the class and exhibit number. A 'Damaged in Transit' label is also available on request. Competitor Badges will be issued at this time.

Security
While reasonable care will be taken with the security of the exhibits, the organisers will not be responsible for any loss or damage to exhibits, equipment or personal effects.

Intellectual Property Rights
By entering the competitions and allowing my work to be shown at the Cake exhibition I accept that photographs or copies may be taken by any person or visitor and realise that my designs/work may be reproduced but will not hold ICHF or its employees liable in any way should this happen.

Removal of Exhibits from Show
All exhibits must be removed at the time stated - and NOT before. Collection will commence at 1700 Sunday 16 November after the Prize-giving. Please be aware of this rule when organising your travel plans. The organisers reserve the right to remove and destroy any exhibit left at the end of the show. The competition area will be closed from 1600 until 1700 on Sunday 16 February whilst the Prize Giving is taking place.

Results
Judging will take place during the first day of the show. Results will be made available as soon as possible on Sunday morning. Competitors are encouraged to seek the advice and guidance of the Chairman of Judges after the results have been posted. Results are available by telephone after they have been posted on the Noticeboard at the show; please ask at registration if you have not received this contact number.
Judges Forum To enable you to understand how the judges have arrived at their decisions they will be available to discuss your results on Sunday morning from 1030 until 1200 midday in the competition area.

Awards
Awards will be made to the standard achieved. When a standard is not achieved no award will be made. These standards will be common to all our cake shows:

Gold Award 90% or more
Silver Award 75% or more
Bronze Award 65% or more
Certificate of Merit 55% or more

The award ceremony will take place at 1600 on Sunday 16 November. Winners unable to attend must apply to the Show Organiser in writing.

Acknowledgements
Competitors will receive an acknowledgement of their entry. Please present this at the Registration Desk on arrival. Look for 'Competition Registration' signs.
