Above and Below the Waves Knitting Display

Alison Murray was the mastermind behind the international knitting project 'Above and Below the Waves' which raised thousands of pounds for the RNLI's Train One - Save Many campaign. Alison's installation includes a three dimensional undersea tunnel, waves, a beach, mermaids, jelly fish and fisherman, plus much more… so submerse yourself in this unique creation, dip your toe in the woolly sea, 'swim' in the knitting and don't forget to bring your children for a once in a lifetime experience - exclusively at ICHF Events' creative shows.

The Art of Lace

"The history of lace-making", it has been said, "is the history of an art". Lace is not, like embroidery, an ornamented fabric, but is itself an ornament; the whole pattern is the fabric, and the fabric is the pattern.

This delightful exhibition explores the ancient craft of lace-making, both by hand and machine, including Needle lace; Cutwork, Bobbin lace; Crochet lace; Guipure and many others.

The Romance of Words

The Romance of Words collection is the third 'In the Spotlight' exhibition from the Quilters Guild of the British Isles. Rising stars from each region present literal and lateral interpretations of "The Romance of Words" in quilt form, celebrating the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility"

Poetry in Stitches 3

The National Needlework Archive is pleased to be showing pictures and poems submitted for the latest round of this ever-popular project. The object of the project is to combine textile art with poetry such that each form complements the other and promotes both to new audiences. Professional and amateur textile artists are asked to interpret poems of their choice as pictures, which are then exhibited together with the poem, which inspired them. Lovely textiles, lovely poems, what more could you want!

Sewing Hub

The Sewing Hub is a haven for dressmakers and fashion fans looking for something unique on a budget. Learn how to update and re-invent your wardrobe in the Stitch Diva's Den, or choose a new pattern and start from scratch with inspiration and guidance from The Pattern Bar. There is also help at hand for anyone starting out in dressmaking or struggling to master a new technique, with the Sewing Machine Clinic offering helpful hints and tips.

Glimpses of Childhood

Glimpses of Childhood was the theme for the prestigious Stitch/Madeira embroidery competition 2011. Here's your chance to see the winners, plus the best of the rest and pick up an entry form for next year's competition: Glimpses of Blighty.

Knitting Lounge with Erika Knight

Come by the 'Knit Lounge' where Erika Knight, world-renowned author and knitting artist, will be delighted to share her love of knitting with you! She loves to keep it simple, so let’s get you started! Learn the basics in minutes - cast on, knit, purl and cast off. Experiment with textures and stitches and all in 100% natural wool!

Use two needles, four needles, round needles or no needles at all, and of course there are the extreme knitting needles! Come and join in… there's lots to see and do. You could even help Erika create a catwalk piece!

Recently Erika has gone back to grass roots. Come and knit with her brand new 'Erika Knight' yarn collection of totally British wool yarns; sheared, scoured, spun, dyed, hanked and hand tagged all in Britain! Available on stand ZA27.

Erika is proud to be supporting the Campaign for British Wool, patroned by HRH Prince Charles, promoting the natural, sustainable origin of wool. Erika’s passion is to keep sheep on our hills, help hill farmers to stay in business, keep yarn manufacturing in Britain and keep people in work and she may just need some help. Knitting Parlour with Elena Costella

Elena Costella, Knitting Editor and owner of 'Yarn & Fibre' studio in Bridgend Perth, is a leading force in the promotion of anything knitted and with Elena's wealth of experience and dedication to teaching, this is a truly fabulous place to learn to knit or indulge in your creative knitting craft.

Elena also knows all knitters have big hearts and so this is your invitation to knit two flowers at Creative Stitches, and make them into brooches; one to keep one for yourself and the second to go to "Creative Care" (Scottish Charity No 029631) to be sold for funds for the amazing work they do. Elena will supply yarns (courtesy of Designer Yarns), patterns, needles, brooch backs, etc and can guarantee an unconventional Knit-along!
